Orna Shani Golan and Dr. Rachelly Ashwall, JICC’s cultural competency experts, in
partnership with The Zofnat Institute for Organizational Consulting, Development, and
Research, co-edited the 30th issue of the journal, Organizational Analysis. The journal’s
theme was the impact of the October 7th war on the work and mission of various
workplaces. The issue was released after more than a year of a multi-front war that was
destabilizing on a human level and challenging organizationally. The issue includes an article
co-authored by Shani Golan, Ashwall, and Dr. Hagai Agamon-Snir.
The article examines the challenges faced by organizations in Israel in managing diversity
and inclusion during a crisis marked by the threats of the war and political and social
tension. It argues that in the Israeli reality, where socio-political tensions are a daily
occurrence, avoiding the management of tensions in the workplace can be destructive. The
article presents a short-term intervention model based on the experience of JICC in
managing volatile situations. The model offers practical tools focused on organizational
goals, using a broad, multicultural approach that encourages openness while setting clear
boundaries for behavior. The focus is not necessarily on changing attitudes, but rather on
setting standards of acceptable behavior in the workplace.
