This summer, Athar’s Health and Sustainability Program brought hands-on learning to the Ibda’ School Summer Camp in Shu’afat, helping children discover that healthy living can be fun, practical, and part of everyday life.
Across a series of interactive activities, more than 40 children participated in workshops that combined nutrition, hygiene, physical activity, and health education through games, teamwork, and creative learning.
Children prepared colorful fruit and vegetable platters, learned about the importance of handwashing, and took part in group sports activities that highlighted the connection between physical activity, mental well-being, and healthy lifestyles. During the sessions, the team also reviewed the children’s breakfasts, encouraging balanced nutrition through positive conversations and celebrating healthy choices already being made at home.
Another activity introduced children to the “world of colors,” where they explored primary and secondary colors in both Hebrew and English before discovering how the different colors of fruits and vegetables reflect their nutritional value. Through games and group challenges, learning became an enjoyable shared experience.
The program also addressed important safety topics, including road safety and the health risks of smoking and e-cigarettes. Through open discussion and age-appropriate activities, children asked questions, challenged misconceptions, and learned how to make healthier decisions while supporting one another.
The enthusiasm and active participation throughout the program reinforced a simple lesson: children learn best when they can experience, create, and discover together. Following the success of these activities, the summer camp and Athar agreed to continue their partnership with additional health and sustainability days throughout the summer.
By investing in children today, Athar is helping build healthier families and stronger communities for tomorrow.
